Artists Open House -2nd – 25th May open every weekend including bank holidays

Mon 25 May - 11:00am

Eda Gardner-Groves is 14 years old  an emerging young artist who has been exhibiting her work at local galleries since the age of 11. Initially inspired by the natural world and her unusual lifestyle, her early pieces reflected a deep appreciation for organic forms and nature.

As she has grown, so too has her artistic voice. Her recent work marks a confident shift towards a more personal and distinctive style, exploring colour in bolder, more expressive ways. Through experimentation and a developing sense of individuality, she is beginning to define her own visual language.

Inès
Hello my name is Inès and I’m 9 Years old.
I really enjoy art beacuse it’s a way to express your feelings. I think Artist Open House is a good opportunity for any aged artist to show their art to other people as others may have a different view than the artist themselves do.
I mainly like to draw people and animals and some people say they are the hardest things to draw, but I actually think they are the easiest things to draw because there is usually some form life and happiness within the picture.
Sometimes, I look out of my window and see a lovely scene so it makes me want to paint it or draw it! Everythig is so beautiful!
I hope all of you will like my art, enjoy!

Nev Brewin

having drawn and painted figuratively in many different styles, took himself off to an isolated French farmhouse for a month to see if a particular style would emerge. After studying forms of nature – bark, lichen, seedpods; he used collage and paint to develop an abstract rendition. Later, he incorporated cityscapes- neon light, graffiti, exploring where nature and urban life intersected. Over time his paintings have become wider, often involving vertical strips, combining scraped raw colour and intricate patterning. He often works on strips of wood painted and repainted which are placed together to find an interesting dynamic.

Val Brewin

interest in the natural forms within nature led to drawing, painting and sewing which resulted in her three dimensional textile creations. She likes to incorporate found objects within her work, rusty metal, shells, stones and glass. In preparation of each piece of work she does extensive research, often looking at the traditional art from other cultures, filling many pages with drawings, paper treatments and stitch techniques.  Her work explores the opposing nature of order and chaos, the combination of eruption, fission and expulsion. Her art reflects the need to bring discordant parts into a cohesive whole.

Julia White

Medium- mixed media and Printmaker…After moving to Sussex in 2006 where I brought up my two children I trained in printmaking, predominantly etching. Inspired by the natural beauty around me I started foraging for plants to study which became an obsession and brought me closer to nature and wellbeing. Collecting both plants and memories from the Sussex Downs, where I now live. I have been experimenting with the use of elements using cyanotype to create sun prints as well as making natural inks, a slow nurturing process. I use layering and various techniques which are both meticulous and whimsical
